I helped lay up a carbon fiber seat for our Formula SAE car a few years ago at the Naval Academy. It was not that difficult. I also built fiberglass side pods myself, and consulted on the shop guys building the nose cone I designed. Had I known how the fiberglass worked, I would've steered clear of such sharp radiused corners, but I made it work.

The biggest thing to remember is that the carbon does not like angles, and layers are your friend. Don't be shy with the resin, and if you're sure you've mixed it properly it will do what you want. Good luck.
